GATHER SUPPLIES
Whether you are locking down a hideout or running for your life, this option could make or break your survival in the long run of this zombie outbreak. There are a few things you want to make sure to have plenty of:
1. Food/water
2. Weapons/ammo
3. A Lighter (Bic is highly recommended)
4. Extra clothes (maybe a little unorthodox, but VITAL)
Canned food works well because of its long shelf life and huge selection (canned potatoes? LOL)! Bottled water is a great step to take in effort to avoid drinking contaminated reservoir water from a tap. Furthermore, whose to say if water will still flow from any tap for much longer? It is best to pack bottled water and conserve!
Weapons is generally a word that draws the connotation of guns. In the Zombie Apocalypse, guns are certainly top-shelf weaponry. However, other weapons need to be considered as backup options. Knives are messier and harder to work with, but they don't run out of bullets. Chainsaws are useful as long as they have fuel. Swords, crossbows, bombs, and pretty much anything capable of serious and immediate head trauma.
A lighter is very useful for creating fire (no shit), and fire is a great weapon against zombies (and really anything else). Instead of wasting bullets, create a torch! Got hairspray? Make your own flamethrower! Power out? Use the lighter to make light! It is really an underrated tool. Especially sizing in at about 3-4 inches long! It is really worth it to have one on you at all times just in case.
Extra clothes. This is not to look pretty. If you are rocking layers, it will be harder to get scratched by zombies! You don't want these disgusting things touching you at all, right? More clothes on your body, more protection from your enemies!
Of course, there are more supplies you are going to need. Like I keep pointing out though, EVERYTHING is relative to your situation. These supplies prove useful regardless of your situation.
------------------What other SUPPLIES would you consider essential for EVERY situation?---------------
It is also important when gathering your supplies to consider your mobility. It is great to have 4,000 gallons of bottled water, but completely useless if you are planning to lug it around in your Smart Car. More still, a million cans of creamed corn is sweet for good eating in the long run, but you won't make it to the long run if get killed trying to salvage every last can before booking it out of a breached hideout.
If you are going to hold down a hideout or fortify some building and defend it against the zombies, make sure your supplies are safely stored in your Emergency Getaway Vehicle. Or, at the very least, make sure it won't take long to load them into said vehicle in the event of a hideout breach.
If you are going to make a run for it and just try to get as far away from where you are, make sure you have a vehicle that is capable of carrying enough supplies to hold you over for a while...you never know how far this crisis reaches or how far you will have to go to get to safety.
Which brings us to the next topic. Stay tuned for that one, due up by tomorrow night!
carharrt coats are very good :) make sure the clothing you wear will last a long time dont worry about designer brands most of those wont last a week in this environment
ReplyDeleteDon't forget your bouncing betties!
ReplyDeleteSife, definitely Carhart is a great option for extra clothing.
ReplyDeleteGMar, if only they sold those at Wal-Mart...
Thank you for continuing to post more information. I think a crowbar should be included, or at least a pry bar. For the simple fact you can use it as a weapon and a multipurpose tool. Also what type of bag do you think people should use? I myself have a Canvas Army duffel bag. I think any first aid kit, tarp, and rope should be included in your Armageddon bag. I just have a couple more questions. Is a lighter going to last long? Should you use a refillable lighter instead of a Bic? If you are using fire to keep warm at night, do you think you will be spotted? Is fire really going kill the living dead which feels no pain? If you use a gun, can the undead/looters/the rest of the cold hearted survivalists hear it? If you are worried about drinking from the tap from the reservoirs being contaminated, should you worry about air borne pathogens?I am glad you are going into this subject with such detail. Sorry for the onslaught of questions, I just thought it would be nice to have another fellow survivalist to bounce ideas and information off of. I have seriously thought of this since I was a kid. I enjoy reading this blog, please do continue this, but I will have much more question to come with each field you want to go into.

ReplyDeleteZombiepicdemic....excellent idea about the crowbar/pry bar. For the bag also, I am glad you pointed out that all bags are not equal. Use whatever you have at the time and upgrade your bag when possible. For example, if you are carrying your supplies in a backpack otherwise intended to carry school books, you may find that it gets heavy easily, and certain things will bulge and the bag can become uncomfortable to carry. HOWEVER, it is more important to use any bag than to search for the perfect carrying bag. Once you have a chance to upgrade your bag scoop a better one up but KEEP the first bag to carry other supplies. You can never have too many bags!
ReplyDeleteI stand by Bic over refillable lighters because Bics last longer. Granted the others you can refill. But I would grab a five pack of Bics when raiding a market for supplies over a refillable lighter for sheer reliability alone.
The best way to keep warm at night is going to be shelter. Not fire. Fire may or may not draw the undead closer to your camp out, but it will certainly attract any LIVING people in the area. Which starts the answer for the next question. Stay tuned for my post that will cover how to handle encounters with other Living people.
Air borne pathogens. You will NEED a gas mask or tactical mask of sorts. A handkerchief or short may or may not suffice, but if that is all you got it is better to try that than to use nothing to filter the air you breathe. Also, in this event it is almost pointless to stay and defend and you should be on your fastest horse in flee! Another round of solid questions from Zombiepicdemic, thanks dude! Thanks to GMar and Sife also for their input!!!
